A

Passenger lifts, like all items of mechanical plant and equipment, can from time to time malfunction, which may cause passengers to become trapped.

It must be borne in mind that the responsibility to ensure that any passengers are safely released from lifts rests with the property owner/occupier. Local fire and rescue services should not be used for such purposes unless, for example, there is a medical emergency.
