International recruitment in adult social care

You can recruit “skilled workers” entering the UK from any part of the world in line with the new points-based system, which commenced in January 2021, following the UK’s exit from the EU. However, this system still excludes the majority of care roles from new staff from overseas.

So the Home Office accepted the Migration Advisory Committee’s (MAC’s) advice in March 2021 to add senior care workers and registered managers to the Shortage Occupation List (SOL), enabling these staff to come and work in the social care sector.
