What is the government in England doing to try to meet its election commitment of increasing the number of general practitioners?

The government is currently working on a new GP recruitment campaign with Health Education England, the Royal College of General Practitioners, the British Medical Association and NHS England. The campaign is being run by the GP National Recruitment Office (GPNRO).

The campaign includes an additional round of recruitment added this year in light of a disappointing take-up of places which has left the programmes under-subscribed.
