Q

Which businesses will be brought into the proposed extension of the Energy Savings Opportunity Scheme (ESOS)?

A

On 6 July 2021, the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) published a consultation on proposals to strengthen the Energy Savings Opportunity Scheme (ESOS). This scheme currently applies to large businesses, which are required to carry out energy audits every four years. The hope is that these businesses will put into practice the energy-saving recommendations of the audits, though they are not legally obliged to do so. For details of the ESOS scheme, see Energy Audits.
