Q

What does the Government mean by a seven-day NHS?

A

The Prime Minister, David Cameron, used his first major speech on the NHS since the election to describe his vision for a health service that “will work for patients 7 days a week.”

In his speech, the PM described the Government as “rethinking what primary care can be” and stated that it was keen to enable a primary care system that has a greater focus on prevention as well as treatment. He described new modern ways of linking primary care services with patients, saying that the patient should be able to “use an app to book appointments for before or after work, order a repeat prescription online and have it delivered to his home and even use Skype, Facetime or email to get some advice without setting foot outside his front door.”
