How can we safely and legally dispose of used face masks?
Q
How can we safely and legally dispose of used face masks?
A
It’s important to make a distinction between the masks and respirators used in healthcare settings, and the face coverings used as a precautionary measure by healthy people.
From 15 June anyone travelling on public transport will have to wear a face covering. The Government recommends fabric coverings which can be washed, but there is nothing to prevent people wearing a simple disposable mask. Members of the public should not try to obtain surgical masks, which are needed by NHS and care workers.
