Racial banter in the workplace
Our office environment is very informal and friendly and our employees all get on well with each other, which we encourage. However, I was concerned recently when I overheard some staff teasing Mary, one of our administrators, about her recent marriage to a man who originates from Nigeria. A friend has suggested to me that Mary could complain of racial harassment on account of this type of banter, however I do not understand this as Mary herself is white and British. Additionally, Mary has not complained about the banter. Should I raise the matter?
