Q

How does Covid-19 testing for “named visitors” and “essential care givers” work in care homes in England?

A

Care homes in England must comply with the latest guidance from the Government on safe visiting at every stage of the coronavirus pandemic.

Guidance on Care Home Visiting applies from 12 April (and was updated on 4 May). It sets out the visiting policies that care homes should adopt as part of national lockdown easing. A key element of helping to reduce risks is the testing of the following categories of visitors for Covid-19 infection:

  • named visitors

  • essential care givers.
