What’s the difference between “sectional completion” and “partial possession”?

When having building work done, there are usually two ways it can be completed and accepted. One is to wait until the contractor has done everything and it is handed over all together. The other is to hand over parts of the job as the work progresses and various bits are finished.

Usually, it makes sense to wait until the whole job is complete. That way there is no argument about things such as access, security, insurance, and the possibility of damage to the work before it is all offered for acceptance.
