Classification of hazardous waste can be a complex procedure that requires an understanding of chemistry as well as of the relevant legislation and procedures.

The Environment Agency (EA) has issued a warning because it has come across a number of incorrect classifications by waste companies. These have largely arisen because companies have not been aware of the changes introduced by new EU chemicals legislation, which has an impact on waste classification.
