How can early years providers audit provision for the Characteristics of Effective Learning?
The Characteristics of Effective Learning (CEL) were developed by Early Education in the 2012 Development Matters non-statutory guidance for the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS). This document has been widely used across the EYFS. A new guidance has been developed by the Department for Education and is being piloted in 2020 for introduction in September 2021. Both recognise the way in which children learn is important. The CEL are how children learn.
Using the original Development Matters published by Early Education, this article takes directly from their terminology to reduce confusion.
