For several years, facilities managers (FMs) have been tasked with adding their skills and insight into their business’s corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives and improving the general green credentials of the buildings they manage. However, more pressure is now being applied to develop building information modelling (BIM) as a core principle that all FMs have as a foundation of their building management.
Central Government has already said that it will use BIM on all its projects by 2016. For FMs, a BIM-dominated future looks assured, even though the construction industry still remains complacent when it comes to the core needs of FMs.
