What is blockchain and how is it relevant to sustainability?
Blockchain is an online digital ledger which allows people to make financial (and other) transactions. Its best-known application is Bitcoin, a kind of digital cash which can be spent anywhere in the world, without the need for banks or other middlemen. Blockchain is therefore different from Paypal, Visa and other systems for making online transactions, which are all supervised by a central body.
