A

The advisory service Acas, has produced guidance on developing a bereavement policy. It is called, Managing bereavement in the workplace —a good practice guide (May 2018). The policy can be found in Annex 1 of the guidance.

Present law in England does not deal specifically with bereavement leave, but it is good practice for an employer to have a policy to deal with it. Employees may be entitled to one or two days off under the Time off for Dependants legislation, but they may need more time than permitted under the statutory right. The gap can be filled by the provisions of your bereavement policy.
