The current concerns relating to the AstraZeneca (AZ) Covid-19 vaccine arose from reports of a very small number of thromboembolic (blood clotting) events which have occurred in people who have been given the vaccine. The concerns led to a number of countries in Europe suspending their AZ vaccination programmes or withdrawing batches of the vaccine while the European Medicines Agency, the EMA, launched a review.
