Anti-microbial resistance has become a very high-profile issue in recent years as the world wakes up to the potential threat caused by the growing resistance of microorganisms to antibiotics.

Two years ago, Lord Jim O’Neill was handed the responsibility of finding answers to the problem by chairing a review. The review has warned that unchecked antibiotic resistance could kill 10 million people a year by 2050 and recommends:

  • an urgent global awareness campaign

  • financial incentives for the pharmaceutical industry to produce new drugs
