Q

What is the Care Quality Commission (CQC) doing about the accuracy of reporting of COVID-19 related deaths and other causes of deaths from care homes?

A

There has been contention around the gathering of data and the accuracy of such from the care home sector. A joint statement from the Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) and the CQC has been issued by the CQC and Office of National Statistics (ONS) in response to recent figures on COVID-19 deaths.

The DHSC and CQC are collaborating to develop a more detailed and more timely picture of the impact of COVID-19 on adult social care, using the data on deaths of people with suspected and confirmed COVID-19 the CQC collects from providers.
