Gay rights campaigning group Stonewall has identified organisations that have consistently demonstrated exemplary practice to support lesbian, gay, bisexual and trans (LGBT) staff, and named them as the Stonewall Star Performers.
Consistently ranked in the top 10 of gay-friendly workplaces, the eight organisations — Accenture, Barclays, Ernst & Young, Gentoo, Goldman Sachs, the Home Office, IBM and Simmons & Simmons — will lead the development of best practice in Britain and abroad.
Stonewall Chief Executive Ruth Hunt said: "All eight of our Star Performers have consistently proved that they can make the world a better place for lesbian, gay, bisexual and trans people. It is therefore only right that we harness their best practice and commitment to changing workplaces across the country and around the world."
All eight will now work with Stonewall on pioneering initiatives that will define best practice for years ahead.
Each of them will actively mentor another employer working to create a workplace culture that is inclusive of LGBT people. Through regular contact, the aim is for the two organisations to develop strategies to transform workplace cultures across the country.
Among the specific pledges made by the new Star Performers, Simmons & Simmons will engage with their suppliers and support them to improve their approach to workplace equality, while Accenture will work on pioneering research into the impact that staff LGBT network groups can have on driving business and creating value for clients.
