Promoting sustainable work and healthy ageing is the focus of this year’s European Week for Safety and Health at Work.
Running from 24 to 28 October, the Week is part of the Healthy Workplaces for All Ages Campaign organised by the European Agency for Safety and Health at Work.
To support events and activities taking place during the Week, a new electronic guide offers practical information on how age-related challenges can be addressed at work.
Available at eguides.osha.europa.eu, the guide offers information tailored to different interests: employers, employees, human resources managers, and health and safety professionals (which for the purposes of the guide also includes union representatives).
According to the European Agency, the Week is aimed at people in organisations, companies and workplaces of all sizes and sectors. Everybody involved in occupational safety and health matters is invited to take part.
In the UK, the Healthy Workplaces for All Ages Campaign is overseen by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) with full details available at www.hse.gov.uk.
The TUC will be undertaking a number of initiatives during the week and has issued an eight-page guide for workplace representatives on the health and safety of older workers (available at www.tuc.org.uk).
