Covid-19 Regulatory Position Statements to help the environment

The Environment Agency (EA) has published a number of temporary regulatory position statements (Covid-19 RPSs) to help organisations manage their activities during the current disruption. Regulators in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland have taken a similar approach. In this article, John Barwise looks at those RPSs that are likely to affect businesses.

Compiling safety data sheets: REACH Annex II

The regulations were published in July and will require all safety data sheets to be updated by the end of December 2022. It will apply from 1 January 2021.

Flexible Furlough under the Job Retention Scheme

The Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme has been in place since March 2020 in order to assist employers who could not maintain their workforce because their operations have been affected by coronavirus. The mechanics of furloughing employees under the scheme until 10 June 2020 are covered in our separate FAQs “Furlough and the Job Retention Scheme”. These FAQs deal with the mechanics of flexible furlough which is in place from 1 July 2020.

Concessions for Transport Operators During Covid-19

In order to cope with the challenges presented by the Covid-19 pandemic and maintain essential transport, a number of relaxations have been made by the Government. The Senior Traffic Commissioner has also published a set of temporary updates to certain of the existing Statutory Documents that provide guidance to Traffic Commissioners when dealing with regulatory issues. These relaxations apply to England, Scotland and Wales only, as the arrangements for Northern Ireland are devolved.
