Concessions for Transport Operators During Covid-19

In order to cope with the challenges presented by the Covid-19 pandemic and maintain essential transport, a number of relaxations have been made by the Government. The Senior Traffic Commissioner has also published a set of temporary updates to certain of the existing Statutory Documents that provide guidance to Traffic Commissioners when dealing with regulatory issues. These relaxations apply to England, Scotland and Wales only, as the arrangements for Northern Ireland are devolved.

Case report: Supreme Court decision in Okpabi oil pollution case

On 12 February 2021, the Supreme Court gave judgment in the case of Okpabi and others v Royal Dutch Shell and another. Okpabi and other claimants had appealed against the dismissal of their appeal from the High Court to the Court of Appeal.

New trade preference scheme for developing countries

A new UK trade preference scheme to grow trade with developing countries is being proposed by the Government. The so-called Developing Countries Trading Scheme will take effect in 2022 and will replace the UK’s current Generalised Scheme of Preferences (GSP) which itself replaced and largely replicated the EU’s GSP from 1 January 2021.
