It is widely accepted that workforce planning fell out of favour in the 1980s as the pace of change in many organisations outstripped their ability to be able to plan effectively. Clearly, there was little point in companies spending valuable time and resources planning for a future that never materialised. Today, despite the pace of change increasing ever upwards, workforce planning is now definitely back in vogue, says Graham Smith.
