A new ‘right to request’ flexible working would provide employees and businesses with the flexibility to decide whether home, flexible, hybrid or office working is the most productive way of operating their business, says Mike Robinson.

This month in the UK, legal limits on social contact will be lifted, but while infection rates and vaccination numbers are up, this may not see most workers return to offices. While the pandemic has accelerated different working arrangements for many office workers, this provides business leaders with three difficult choices: bring everyone back to the office; introduce a flexible working regime; or allow people to work from home permanently. With no rule book to consult, leaders have tough decisions to make that may have lasting consequences.
