ISO 26000 Guidance on Social Reponsibility provides guidance on how businesses and organisations can operate in a socially responsible way. This means acting in an ethical and transparent manner that contributes to the health and welfare of society. Work on it began in 2001, with the guidance eventually published in November 2010. Critically, ISO 26000 is guidance, and not a standard, meaning it does not contain requirements and cannot be certified or used in contracts, unlike a number of other well-known ISO standards. So, how useful is it really to organisations of differing sector, size or location?
