New draft guidelines for gross negligence manslaughter offences published in July by the Sentencing Council will sharpen the focus of businesses on health and safety, say lawyers.
Increase of jail terms for individuals found guilty of the most serious gross negligence manslaughter offences is among the proposals, open for consultation until 10 October.
There is a new maximum jail term of 18 years and, although the guidelines for cases sentenced in England and Wales cover four types of manslaughter, gross negligence manslaughter has a unique note.
