Dress codes in the workplace have been in the eyes of the media recently. The focus has been on the dress and the protected characteristic of religion or belief and dress and the protected characteristic of sex.

To comply with the Equality Act 2010 (the Equality Act), employers should, where reasonably practicable, accommodate the requirements of the different religions or beliefs of their employees and avoid any potentially discriminatory practices when drawing up dress codes.
