What steps can we take to reduce the risk of violence and aggression to staff?

People who deal directly with the public or work alone in potentially hazardous situations, such as retail workers, health sector staff and transport employees, can be subject to aggressive or violent behaviour, including verbal abuse or threats and physical attacks.

As well as causing injury, distress, fear and anxiety to the victims, work-related violence can result in costs for a business due to absenteeism, increased staff turnover, poor staff morale and higher insurance premiums.
