A recent query on fire safety answered by the British Safety Council’s member Information Service.
Under UK fire safety law, those in control of commercial buildings such as workplaces are required to put in place adequate measures to ensure people can safely escape in the event of a fire. As part of this, they must draw up an emergency plan setting out how people will leave the building and establish safe areas where occupants can assemble and checks can be made that everyone has been accounted for.
