Limber up for Walk to School Week

17 May 2019

The five-day walking challenge will this year be taking place from 20 to 24 May with thousands of schools already promising to take part.

Living Streets, described as the UK charity for everyday walking, is celebrating its 90th anniversary and, as the promoters of this event, have picked a theme relevant to their cause.

“We will take pupils on a special walking journey re-tracing the steps of our greatest achievements over the course of the last 90 years,” it explained. “The classrooms packs and activities are built to make the pupils feel empowered to change their walking environment for the better: they’ll experience first-hand the importance of walking to school.”

Each pack is suitable for a class of up to 30 children and all activities are curriculum aligned (KS1/P1-4 & KS2/P5-7) with packs containing everything pupils need to join in the event:

  • teacher guidance and parent information

  • classroom wallchart/pledge poster

  • wallchart stickers for pupils and teacher

  • 30 pupil activity diaries; and either

  • pupil daily reward stickers KS1/P1-4, or

  • pupil reward badges KS2/P5-7.

“Packs cost only £10 each and are undated so can be used during any week of the year if your school can’t join during Walk to School Week,” Living Streets points out.
