Independent, landlocked republic located largely between Poland and Russia but also bordering Latvia and Lithuania in the north and Ukraine in the south.
The official languages are Belarusian and Russian and the Cyrillic alphabet is used. Understanding a little about the Cyrillic alphabet (both upper and lower case) and the equivalent Roman characters will help in identifying street names and road signs.
